Smart Home Security Systems

How to Make Your Home a “Smart Home”

Home Automation systems turn your home into a “Smart Home” by communicating with you and saving you time, energy, and money. This technology, called Smart Home Technology or Smart Home Systems, is now more affordable than ever.

Smart Home Automation Icon
“Smart Homes” can automate lights, thermostats, garage doors and more.

On your way to work and forgot to arm your security system? You can arm it immediately from your mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. Set it up to receive a text-message notification any time your carbon-monoxide or smoke detectors indicate an emergency or if someone else has armed or disarmed it.

Use the motion-detection settings to have your camera record anyone who enters the house and then send alerts to your phone, or set your system to turn lights on when you walk into a room.

Lock or unlock exterior doors, so you can let someone in, even when you are not, and eliminate the need to rush home to verify that you locked the door on your way out. Open or close your garage door, or check status of door while away.

Receive a text message any time a signal is triggered in your house, such as from a liquor cabinet or pool gate opening.

Adjust your temperature from your phone, or set automatic adjustments at certain times during the day. Wake up to a warm house in the winter, and lower the temperature after you leave for work. A real energy and money saver. You can also adjust it with a touch of a button on your phone.

You know your home is protecting itself and your loved ones 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — and with a Smart Home Automation System from Atronic Alarms you have the ability to communicate with it at any time.

Plan 2 Ways Out

Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!

This year’s theme for National Fire Prevention Week is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” In the event of a home fire, the difference between life and death is mere seconds. So it is vital to create an escape plan with two routes out of every room.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), seven people die in U.S. home fires every day. And only one-third of Americans have developed and practiced a home fire escape plan.

At Atronic Alarms, Inc., we are committed to reducing fire-related fatalities, and this is the perfect week for you and your family to take action.

Creating a Fire Escape Plan

To help you create and practice an escape plan, here are some tips to get started:

  • Download the NFPA grid in English (PDF) or Spanish (PDF).
  • Draw a model of your home on the grid.
  • Mark two exits from each room and a path to the outside from each exit.
  • Practice your home fire drill twice a year. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out.
  • Teach children how to escape on their own in case you can’t help them.
  • Close doors behind you as you leave – this may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire.
  • Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building.

Other Resources

The NFPA provides a whole range of informative and fun ways to teach children about fire safety on their Sparky School House website. Here are just a couple of the resources available:

  • Sparky’s Fire House – This free app is loaded with games and activities to teach early learners ages 3 – 7 how to stay safe in a fire. Find it in the Apple App Store and on Google Play for Android.
  • Sparky the Fire Dog’s® Brain Busters – This free trivia app challenges students ages 8 – 11 over subjects like math, science, pop culture and fire safety. Find it in the Apple App Store and on Google Play for Android.

The American National Red Cross

The American National Red Cross created a First Aid App that provides step-by-step instructions on what to do for nearly any first aid emergency. It is also integrated with 9-1-1 so you can call EMS from the app at any time. Find it in the Apple App Store and on Google Play for Android.

Not So Home Alone

Not-So Home Alone

Welcome to the not-so home alone era.

It used to be that when school children were home alone after school due to both parents working, they were considered “latch key” kids. However, thanks to current “smart home” technology, children may still be home alone, but they no longer have to carry actual keys, and parents have the ability to “check in” on them whenever possible.

Pets Fire Pet Safety

Pets and Fire Don’t Mix – Pet Safety System

We love our pets. And we understand that you do, too. That’s why we offer a pet safety system that “watches” over your pets while you’re away.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, pets and wild animals are involved in starting about 700 home fires each year.

With a pet safety system, as soon as the devices detect smoke it alerts Atronic’s monitoring station and the fire department is dispatched immediately. These minutes saved may be the most important minutes of your pet’s life.

Since the BEST fire is NO fire, here are some additional tips from the National Fire Protection Association to keep your pets safe:

Pet Safety Tips

  • Pets are curious. They may bump into, turn on, or knock over cooking equipment. Keep pets away from stoves and countertops.
  • Keep pets away from candles, lamps, and space heaters.
  • Always use a metal or heat-tempered glass screen on a fireplace and keep it in place.
  • Keep pets away from a chimney’s outside vents.
  • Have a “pet-free zone” of at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from the fireplace. Glass doors and screens can stay dangerously hot for several hours after the fire goes out.
  • Consider battery-operated, flameless candles. They can look and smell like real candles.
  • Some pets are chewers. Watch pets to make sure they don’t chew through electrical cords. Have any problems checked by a professional.

Smoke Alarms

  • Have working smoke alarms on every level of the home. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. If the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out.
  • Never go back inside for pets in a fire. Tell firefighters if your pet is trapped. You can also order Pet Rescue Stickers that adhere to your door or windows to alert first responders.

Atronic Alarms, Inc. *smoke detectors are always on, even if your security system is disarmed. There is NO additional monitoring fee to add fire protection.

P.S. Do you ever wonder what your pets do when you are not home? Ask us about our optional camera feature so you can “watch” your pets while you are away!

*Smoke detectors must be in good working order and communicating with our monitoring station.
2017 Summer Scams

As temperatures rise, so do door-to-door home security scams. Some are perpetuated nearly every summer, and we’ve warned of them in the past. However, every year, criminals create new ways to take your money. Knowing what to look for is the best way to avoid getting caught up in their schemes.
